Please omit invocations from city council meetings entirely. Not only do they divide our community between the religious and non-religious, invocations are not necessary to do the work of the council.
However, if you decide to retain invocations, I urge you to allow secular invocations as well as religious ones. This and only this treats all citizens fairly.

The citizens of Arroyo Grande are not fully represented on the current city council and will be even less so when the new council is seated. An oversight committee needs to be implemented to provide the citizens with an opportunity to truly participate. This group should not be appointed by council members, this board of 5 to 7 people should have to apply and interview with the city manager. Assistance with an economic development plan should be the first order of business for this group.

Grand Ave from Oak Park to Elm has a serious problem with homeless that are aggressively panhandling foot traffic in this business district. We need to find ways to better manage this. In the last year the level of this problem has gotten worse.
There are lots of ideas all with compromises but ignoring the problem will not make it go away. Panhandling, sleeping on public benches, and other activities have to be managed in this area.
These people have their issues and I have no issue with public support for those that have problems but we have gone to far the other way. The citizens of Arroyo Grande have a right to go for a walk without feeling threatened.
There is no easy fix to this issue but we can do better than the current situation.
