ARROYO GRANDE, CALIFORNIA – On February 25, 2020, the City Council approved a contract with Granite Construction, Inc. for the Bridge Street Bridge Rehabilitation Project. Granite Construction will be performing rehabilitation of the Bridge Street Bridge from May through December 2020. The work will require the removal of the bridge over Arroyo Grande Creek during this time. The project will provide a temporary bridge to the west of the Bridge Street Bridge for non-motorized access over the creek during construction activities.
The project, funded through a federal grant, consists of rehabilitating the existing historic trusses, removing the existing supplemental truss below the deck and replacing it with a stronger supplemental truss, and replacing the existing abutments and center pier. The project will result in a bridge that meets present day standards for weight limits and seismic loading and provides protection for the historic truss from vehicle impact while maintaining the historic feel of the Village area.
Signs will be installed at each end of Bridge Street to inform the public that businesses are open during construction, and vehicles will be allowed to access Bridge Street and businesses on either side of Arroyo Grande Creek except for temporary closures during certain operations when large equipment must access the site. Prior to closing or limiting access to adjacent private driveways or full street closures, the contractor will notify the affected businesses/owners.
Detours will be established to direct through traffic around the site. Work hours will be restricted to 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday or Sunday beginning Monday, May 18, 2020.
The construction activities may cause inconveniences because of the nature of the work. The City appreciates your patience during this period and will attempt to minimize the inconvenience. Please contact the Public Works Department at (805) 473-5460 if you have special needs or concerns that should be taken into consideration during this process. If you have questions about the overall project, please call Jill McPeek, Capital Improvement Project Manager at (805) 473-5444. The City will also have a resident engineer on site to address concerns you may have.
