[ARCHIVED] City Mourns Passing of Khatchik H. “Katcho” Achadjian

ARROYO GRANDE, CA -  The City of Arroyo Grande mourns the loss of long-time San Luis Obispo County resident, Arroyo Grande business owner, community volunteer, mentor, and legislator, Khatchik H. “Katcho” Achadjian, who passed away on March 5, 2020. With the passing of Mr. Achadjian, who formerly served as a State of California Assembly Member and as San Luis Obispo County District 4 Supervisor, we lost a champion and leader who worked tirelessly to make the City of Arroyo Grande, the County of San Luis Obispo, and the State of California better. He was one of kind, a visionary and a business leader with a deep passion for the Central Coast.

Mayor Caren Ray Russom stated, “"As a mentor to myself and so many other elected officials, Katcho set the example on how to live a life in politics and government with dignity, humility, and grace. I especially appreciate his tireless public service over the years and his dedication to the City of Arroyo Grande and its citizens. In honor of Katcho, the flags at all City of Arroyo Grande buildings will fly at half-staff. I am deeply saddened with this loss, and his friendship, laughter and leadership will be deeply missed. My condolences go out to his family and friends during this difficult time."

City Manager Jim Bergman expressed, “Today, our thoughts go out to Katcho’s family and all who knew this great and kind man and his legacy of public service.  As a tribute to Katcho, a memorial book has been started for the family and we invite members of the community to stop by City Hall at 300 E. Branch Street to sign it and share your thoughts about Katcho.”

In honor of Katcho’s commitment in advocating for those in need, especially for the youth and the elderly in our community, the family has announced that donations can be made “in memory of Katcho” to the Senior Nutrition Program of San Luis Obispo County and/or End Kids Cancer Foundation.

At a future City Council meeting still to be determined, Mayor Ray Russom will be presenting a Proclamation further recognizing and acknowledging Mr. Achadjian’s leadership, long-time community and civic service, and his dedication to the City, County and State.  To receive automatic notifications of future meeting agendas, visit http://www.arroyogrande.org/list.aspx and click on “Notify Me” to subscribe.
