On December 17, 2018, a 14-year old male juvenile posted a picture of him possessing what appeared to be a semi-automatic pistol while he drove a stolen vehicle near the Arroyo Grande High School (A.G.H.S.). The Arroyo Grande Police Department was alerted and located a vehicle matching the description near the intersection of Cienega / Valley Road.
A traffic enforcement stop was initiated and the vehicle failed to yield to officers. During the pursuit, the suspect threw what appeared to be a pistol out of the window of the vehicle. It was later located and identified to be a BB gun. The pursuit reached unsafe speeds and was terminated by the on-duty Watch Commander. During the early evening hours, the vehicle was later found parked and occupied by the juvenile and he was taken into custody without further incident. The juvenile was arrested and booked pending charges of felony possession of a stolen vehicle and felony evading a Police Officer.
The Arroyo Grande Police Department and A.G.H.S. Administrators are aware of additional social media posts that have been initiated by an individual(s) from out of the area and it has been determined that there is no threat to the safety of our students or staff members. The Arroyo Grande Police Department will continue to network with allied law enforcement agencies and monitor the social media posts.
