[ARCHIVED] Nomination Period for City Council Candidates Begins July 16th

ARROYO GRANDE, CALIFORNIA - The nomination period for City Council candidates for the November 6, 2018 General Municipal Election begins on Monday, July 16, 2018.  This year’s election will be to fill two (2) seats for City Council Member, each for a four-year term, and one (1) seat for directly-elected Mayor, for a two-year term. The nomination period runs from Monday, July 16, 2018 through Friday, August 10, 2018.  If an incumbent office holder does not file and qualify for re-election by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 10, 2018, the nomination period will be extended to Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at 5:00 p.m.

To be eligible for a seat on the City Council, a candidate must live within the City limits of Arroyo Grande and be a registered voter of the City.  There is no filing fee for nomination papers; however, there is a $200 deposit towards the printing of a Candidate’s Statement of Qualifications in the voter information pamphlet.  Filing a Candidate’s Statement of Qualifications is optional. Candidates must also file a Statement of Economic Interests (Form 700) and certain campaign statements as required by the Political Reform Act of 1974.

City Council meetings are held the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 6:00 p.m., with special meetings scheduled as needed.  The Mayor and Council Members also attend various regional and local board, committee and commission meetings throughout the County to which they are appointed and represent the City.

If you are interested in running for a seat on the Arroyo Grande City Council, please contact the Arroyo Grande City Clerk’s Office at (805) 473-5414 to schedule an appointment during regular business hours to receive the necessary nomination papers and candidate forms.  Regular business hours are Monday – Thursday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, closed on Fridays. City Hall will remain open on Friday, August 10, 2018 for election related services only.
