[ARCHIVED] Ongoing Classes for Youth and Adults Winter/Spring 2018

ARROYO GRANDE, CA - The City of Arroyo Grande Recreation Services Department is offering a variety of ongoing classes for youth and adults January – May 2018. For more specific class information or to register, visit www.arroyogrande.org/activities. 

CLASSES FOR YOUTH 

ART FOR KIDS with PEGGY VALKO This mixed media class is designed to promote hand/eye coordination, build self-confidence and increase problem solving. Media includes markers, graphite, watercolors, pastels, colored pencils and crayons. All materials are included. Classes take place Wednesdays from 3:15 – 4:15 p.m. OR 4:30 – 5:45 p.m. and is for ages 5 and up. The cost is $42 for four classes. Classes take place at Peggy’s Art Studio, 809 E. Grand Ave. in Arroyo Grande.

CHESS with DOCTOR CHESS Doctor Chess Adventures are fun and sociable, develop good thinking skills and improve school grades. This class is designed for players in 2nd – 8th grade who know how to play, and want to learn how to play to win! Classes take place on Mondays from 4:00 – 5:15 p.m. A sibling discount is available. Classes take place at the Elm Street Community Center, 1221 Ash St. in Arroyo Grande.

PYJAMA DRAMA Take your child to an exciting class where their imagination has the starring role! In each session, children pretend, play drama games, sing, dance and have lots of fun. New adventures every week develop key skills such as concentration, communication, cooperation and creative thinking.  Classes take place on Tuesdays at 207 Pilgrim Way in Arroyo Grande. A special Spring Break camp will take place in April 2018.

CALIKIDS FITNESS CaliKids offers developmentally structured, age-appropriate, fitness classes that incorporate gymnastics, dance, sports, relays, games, and more. Parent & Me and Parent Independent classes are offered for children ages 1-6 years. Classes begin in February, and take place at the Elm Street Community Center or Elm St. Park, 1221 Ash St. in Arroyo Grande.

CLASSES FOR ADULTS

ZUMBA with HEIDY MANGIARDI This class incorporates cardio, muscle-conditioning, balance and flexibility for a calorie burning, dance fitness party. Zumba is appropriate for all fitness levels from beginner to advanced. Classes take place at the Arroyo Grande Woman’s Club on Mondays and Thursdays, and are for ages 13 and up.

ADULT TENNIS This class provides intermediate and advanced instruction, workouts, and drills for adults. Classes are ongoing and take place at 8:30 a.m. on Saturdays with Coach Teresa Downey at the Soto Sports Complex Tennis Courts, 1221 Ash St. in Arroyo Grande.

RECREATIONAL BASKETBALL Come get a good workout with other basketball enthusiasts.  Half-court games played with teams changed each night. To sign up, contact Greg Soto at (805) 481-1066. Classes occur May – November on Tuesdays and Thursdays at varying gyms.

ZUMBA GOLD! Looking for a lower intensity dance fitness class? Zumba Gold! is the perfect blend of easy dance choreography and focuses on balance, range of motion and coordination. Classes take place at the Arroyo Grande Woman’s Club on Mondays and Wednesdays. Punch cards are available.

SENIOR FITNESS A low impact recreational exercise program using chairs with optional standing exercises, this class is designed to maintain and improve joint mobility, muscle tone, bone strength, posture and balance. Classes take at the Arroyo Grande Woman’s Club Monday – Thursday, and punch cards are available.
