ARROYO GRANDE, CALIFORNIA – The City of Arroyo Grande is initiating its process to transition to district-based elections. The first of at least four public hearings is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, July 27th at 6:00 PM during the City Council’s regular meeting. The public will be able to participate in this meeting in-person or online. Additionally, the meeting will be broadcast live on Arroyo Grande Cable Channel 20 and streamed online.
The purpose of this public hearing is to provide information about the districting process and to hear from the community on what factors should be taken into consideration while creating district boundaries. Census data will be used to draw voting district lines and residents of Arroyo Grande are encouraged to participate in the districting process to ensure district lines respect neighborhoods, history and geographical elements.
To help share information about the transition to district-based elections, and to collect feedback and draft maps, a district elections webpage has been created at www.arroyogrande.org/districtelections. The webpage includes background information on the districting process, a tentative schedule for public participation, online and paper mapping tools, and more. The City will regularly update the districting website as the districting process continues.
