The Bridge Street Bridge ("Bridge") is a valued historic feature in the City of Arroyo Grande and serves as a primary thoroughfare and landmark in the City’s Historic Village area. During its service life of over 100 years, the Bridge had developed age-related deficiencies that would have caused closure if not addressed.

In February 2020, the City awarded a construction contract to Granite Construction to rehabilitate the bridge to retain the use of the Bridge while maintaining community safety, accessibility, and historic value. Construction began in June 2020 and was completed in March 2021.

In October 2020, the City awarded a construction contract to Quincon, Inc. for the habitat mitigation phase of the project to mitigate impacts to riparian and wetland habitats associated with the rehabilitation project. Planting was competed in March 2021 and will be monitored and maintained for five years to ensure plant establishment.

The $9.1M project was funded through the Federal Highway Bridge Program (HBP).
